SATURDAY MORNING GEOMETRIES
My mind woke with the dogs this morning, got up and sat in the chair to wait for my body to catch up. My husband's body got up to tend to the dogs, while his mind stayed tucked under the pillow.
For the sake of family harmony, we are trying to be a United Front these days. It's not so easy, although it's really only a matter of pace most of the time.
My mind went down to the kitchen with his body — the creaks and rattles and dings. His body returned to find my body sitting in the chair, waiting. "What are you doing up?" we both asked at the same time, a pivotal moment of perfect unity.
"I'm going back to sleep," he said, fussing at the pillows. "I'm going down to think," I answered, rising to find where my mind had wandered off to.
